Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Opens Up About Dressing Kim Kardashian: "I Got Killed Because Of This"
It's a pretty much given that Kim Kardashian is one of the most sought-after stars for top designers to dress right now...but t'was not always so.
Givenchy Creative Director Riccardo Tisci opened up in a recent interview with Details about his relationship with Kim and Kanye West, including why he was chosen for the coveted role of designing their wedding day attire.
"I didn't care what people thought about Kim," Tisci told the mag. "In the beginning, I met her because of my respect for Kanye, and then I liked her a lot and we became friends. I got killed because of this. But I didn't care."
Tisci's gamble with Kimye paid off: The high-powered couple is now much lauded by power players in the fashion community. Kanye's New York Fashion Week debut for his Yeezy Season collection (in collaboration with Adidas) was even attended by Anna Wintour, who sat front row next to Kim and baby North West. (Also, you don't get a joint Vogue cover for nothin'.)
Riccardo's loyalty to the couple is ultimately why he was behind Kim's figure-hugging (and floor-sweeping) lace wedding gown.
"And this is why, when they got married, they asked me to dress them," he revealed. "They say, 'You've always been with us. You've been a real friend.' If I like somebody, I like somebody. If I don't like somebody, I don't like somebody."
Well, that's real talk if we've ever heard any ourselves. And exactly why Mrs. West includes Tisci among her closest designer friends.
