Lebanese Journalist Effectively Takes Down Rude Guest After He Tells Her to "Shut Up" During Interview
Pay attention, people. Is someone disrespecting you? This is how you shut them down in a way that is both badass and effective.
Lebanese news anchor Rima Karaki was interviewing Muslim scholar Hani Al Seba'i during a segment about Christians joining ISIS and other extremist Islam groups. Al-Seba'i is known for his controversial opinions, but things got really heated when Karaki asked a direct question about how ISIS is able to recruit people from different faith backgrounds.
When Al-Seba'i refused to answer and instead danced around the question with a history lesson, Karaki attempted to steer him back to the original topic, as they were running out of time. Apparently Karaki doing her job really pissed Al-Seba'i off, as he started to get argumentative by rudely insisting that he will answer questions as he pleased.
"In this studio, I run the show...Please don't get all worked up," she requested. "We respect you and know you want to give a complete answer." His retort?
"Are you done? Shut up, so I can talk."
That's when Karaki plainly demonstrated how things were supposed to go when she was conducting an interview.
"How can a respected sheik like yourself tell a TV host to shut up?" she asked.
Al Seba'i responded by starting to say that it was beneath him to be interviews by Karaki, which is when she cut off his mic and told him that "either there is mutual respect or the conversation is over."
And guess what? That conversation was o-v-e-r.
Karaki was able to demonstrate to the world how to deal with a rude, misogynistic person with the utmost grace and professionalism in less than three minutes. So we'll be adding her to our growing list of powerful, incredible ladies that children everywhere are lucky to look up to.
