ROONEY MAKES 500TH MAN UTD APPEARANCE

Wayne Rooney has racked up his 500th Manchester United appearance after returning to the side for Saturday's clash with Norwich City.

The 30-year-old has missed the club's last three matches with an ankle injury sustained in the 1-1 draw at Leicester City in November, but his recall for the match against Alex Neil's side at Old Trafford coincided with Rooney making the landmark appearance.

His 500th showing for the Red Devils comes more than 11 years on from his September 2004 debut in the Champions League against Fenerbahce, in which he grabbed a stunning hat-trick in a 6-2 victory.
