Yung Berg Fired from Love & Hip Hop Hollywood After Arrest Over Alleged Assault on Girlfriend
Berg has not commented. The news was announced on the cable channel's blog on Friday evening.
The rapper, whose real name is Christian Ward and is also known as Hitmaka, was arrested early on Wednesday, Nov. 5. and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor. If convicted, he would face a maximum punishment of one year in jail.
Police told ABC News they responded to a 911 call about an assault at the Gershwin Hotel in Manhattan at 2:15 a.m. and that the hip hop star's girlfriend, who also goes by the name Masika Kalysha, said Yung Berg grabbed her by her neck, threw her to the ground, dragged her by the hair and punched her in the face.
Police added that she said she was in pain but refused to be treated at the scene.
"Based on the severity of the allegations against Yung Berg, VH1 is terminating its relationship with him in connection with Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, effective immediately," the cable network said in its statement.
"Yung Berg was arrested on November 5th and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing in connection with an assault on fellow cast member Masika Tucker," it added. "The arrest took place in a New York hotel several hours after the taping of the reunion special for Love & Hip Hop Hollywood had wrapped."
Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, a spinoff of the hit reality show Love & Hip Hop, debuted this past September and also features the likes of Ray J, who collaborated with Yung Berg on the hit 2007 single "Sexy Can I," Soulja Boy, Omarion, and his ex, Hazel E.
Yung Berg, who grew up in Chicago, is also a producer and has worked with artists such as TLC, Fifth Harmony, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Nicki Minaj.
