Hugh Jackman Cuts Himself Onstage, Bleeds for an Hour During Broadway Show

Let it bleed! The show must go on! For Hugh Jackman, these are words to live by.

During a preview performance of his Broadway show The River on Wednesday, the 46-year-old accidentally cut his finger with a knife while cutting a lemon onstage. Jackman's rep confirmed to E! News that he did, indeed, injure himself, and that the wound continued to bleed for an hour! In spite of this, he finished the performance.

According to the Page Six, who was first to report on Jackman's incident, he was later checked by medics but didn't need stitches. After the show, he even signed autographs for fans outside the theater!

"Hugh managed to improvise so well that when he got offstage, someone asked him if he's going to do that every night," said a source. "He replied, 'Hopefully not, I've only got five fingers on each hand.'"

Not to worry--as of this Friday, he still has all 10 fingers! He Instagrammed photo evidence of his digits--and his still-healing wounds--captioning the shot cheekily, "Still got 'em all!"

At least he has a sense of humor about it! Backtracking a minute, though--why exactly was Jackman cutting up lemons onstage in the first place?! He plays a reclusive fisherman in The River, which means his character has to do everything a fisherman would do--including preparing his meals!

At a TimesTalk event earlier this year, Jackman explained (per People), how "one of the characters catches a fish, a sea trout. and it is brought on stage and one of the girls says, 'What are we going to do with it?'

"And I say, 'Well, we're going to cook it. We're going to eat it,'" he went on. "We literally gut it, clean it."

"Don't worry," he added reassuringly, "I'm going to make you love gutting fish."
