Are Ariana Grande and Jessie J Remaking "The Boy Is Mine?"

Ariana Grande and Jessie J will not be fighting over a boy.

Despite reports that the two are teaming up to record a remake of Brandy and Monica's 1998 hit, "The Boy Is Mine," sources tell me it's not happening.

Producer Rodney Jerkins reportedly said in an interview with Hits Daily Double that Grande and Jessie J are teaming up for the remake next year as part of his plans to mark his 20th anniversary in the music business.

"It's absolutely not happening," one source said. "Neither Ariana or Jessie knew a thing about this until all these reports came out. It totally came out of left field."

Perhaps it's wishful thinking after "Bang Bang," their song with Nicki Minaj, became a hit this summer.

"The Boy Is Mine" appeared on Brandy's album, Never Say Never, and Monica's album, The Boy Is Mine.

The tune earned a Grammy for best R&B performance by a duo or a group. However, drama came with the success. Brandy and Monica reportedly did not get along. They denied there was a riff after reports surfaced that they came to blows while rehearsing for a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September of 1998.

But in 2012, Monica admitted that she and Brandy "could barely stay in the room with each other" when they made the song.

"By no means was it jealousy or envy," she told Connecticut radio station WZMX. "She and I are polar opposites and instead of embracing that, we used our differences as reasons not to be amongst each other."

They have since reconciled and are now close friends.

The two reunited in 2012 for a new duet, "It All Belongs to Me."
